For my first blog post, I just wanted to discuss a little about why I chose teaching as my future career. When I was in elementary school, I went from the kid who only talked to the teacher because I was in trouble to the kid who talked to the teacher because I was truly interested in how much knowledge he or she held in comparison to me. My teachers were people who I respected, who I listened to, and who I trusted to give me the tools I needed to thrive both in and out of school. As I grew up, I realized that was the kind of person I wanted to be. I’ve always loved working with kids and I always knew I wanted to do something that made be feel like I was bettering the world in some way, even it was a small impact. I thought about a variety of careers in which I felt I could do both. I thought about social work, careers in the government, careers in family medicine, and all kinds of other jobs, but nothing seemed to fit until I came to teaching. It’s a career that I believe fits my personality perfectly and allows me to better our society through molding the minds of those who will one day be our future. I have a lot of ideas about how I would like to make a difference and will discuss those in my following posts.
